Board Notes July 28, 2009

Mr. Wheeler presented information regarding various maintenance projects. Board agreed to move the old metal bleachers outside, install carpet under the computer carrels in the library, retrofit old blackboards to whiteboards, and investigate the purchase of a motorized folding divider to facilitate use of the gym during lunch periods.
Ms. DeSordi expressed her concerns with the two scheduled gym periods which occur during lunch.
Ms. Santucci updated the board on curriculum mapping, the literacy initiative, and other curricular matters.
The MOMS Club of Winslow thanked the board for supporting the annual Trike-a-Thon, which raised about $2,100 for children’s charities.
Facilities, Finance, Food Service, and Transportation Committee meetings were scheduled.
Becica Associates was approved as Architect of Record for the upcoming year.
The Tab Group was approved for record and document destruction.
Paul’s Commodity Hauling was approved for transporting state commodities from storage for our school lunch program.
Bollinger was reapproved to provide student accident insurance.
Transportation and tuition contracts were approved for special education students; contract with Sunny Days Early Childhood Developmental Services was approved.
Purchase of new lockers for the gym locker rooms was approved. Existing lockers will be placed in sixth grade homerooms to alleviate crowded conditions in the middle school hallway.
Melissa Mammucari was approved as fourth grade teacher; Jenny Paulino was approved as Spanish/BSI teacher; and Regis Vitale was approved to provide homebound instruction.
Ms. Abbamondi was approved to work on technology updates over the summer months.
Ms. Fichetola and Mrs. Derringer were approved for graduate coursework at Rowan.
The board approved advertising for a prekindergarten aide and a substitute board clerk.
The board approved termination of employment for Ms. Alicia Pickul.
The board approved use of the BSA Learning for Life Program as a supplemental resource for character education.
Professional development was approved for various personnel.
The board approved application for IDEIA funds to be used for tuition and related services.
The board approved first reading of Policy 3600 and revised Policy 3000/3010.
